Prof. Dr. Malachi Edwin Vethamani obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in English Literature and Master in Education in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) from University of Malaya and a doctorate in Literature in English from the University of Nottingham, England. He is a recipient of the Chevening Award (1993-1996), the Fulbright Scholarship (2000) and Sumito Foundation Research Grant (2009). He is currently Dean and Professor at the School of Education, Languages and Communications, Wawasan Open University, Malaysia. He was with the Faculty of Educational Studies, University Putra Malaysia from 1986 till 2009. He is Vice President of Asia TEFL. He was the President of the Malaysian English Language Teaching Association (MELTA) from June 2001 till January 2008.

Prof. Vethamani has researched widely in the area of teaching literature in English and Malaysian Literature in English. He has also written many articles and essays in this area for both local and international publications. He co-authored a work on multi-cultural reading of literary texts entitled Now Read On (London: Routledge, 1999). He published A Bibliography of Malaysian Literature in English (Petaling Jaya: Sasbadi Publishers Sdn. Bhd.) in 2001 and a compilation of the work of Malaysian poets entitled In-Sights: Malaysian Poems (Petaling Jaya: Maya Press) in 2003. His compilation of newspaper articles were published as Developments in Teaching of Literature in English (Serdang: Universiti Putra Malaysia Press, 2004).
